As climate impacts and equity become more central in policy discussions, there is a growing need for researchers to understand how integrated assessment models can capture and address these issues. To support this, the PRISMA project, supported by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 101081604, is hosting a Summer School for young international scholars, advanced PhD students, and early postdocs. The program will feature approximately nine lectures from experts in the field, hands-on sessions with integrated assessment models (IAMs) and data analysis, and group work in the afternoons focused on model development and analysis.

    Target audience

Advanced doctoral students (e.g., from the 2nd year onwards) and early-career scientists (e.g., early post-docs) from universities, research institutes, or other organizations (such as private companies, government agencies, and NGOs) whose research focuses on using computational methods to study environmental and climate related issues (for instance, energy system models, climate models, ecological models, macroeconomic models).

Applicants should be proficient in at least one of the following programming languages (or similar): Python, Julia, R, or Matlab.

    Aim of the course

The objective of the summer school is to create a community of young scholars from a broad range of disciplines (climate, ecology, economy, energy, political science) actively working on modelling human activities and the earth system in an integrated framework commonly referred to as Integrated Assessment Modeling.

    Application

Applicants are kindly requested to provide the following documents:

    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Letter of motivation for joining the summer school (max. 1 page). Please also indicate how you learned about the summer school and/or if you have any affiliation within the PRISMA project
    • A letter of reference from their supervisor (with original signature)
    • A transcript of the most recent grades (not a problem if these are from a while ago)
    • The draft of the paper or scientific work the researcher will present during the summer school. Presentations will be done in the form of a poster session but work can be submitted here in the form of a finished paper, draft, summary, research proposal, or poster (no length constraint). Topic-wise, this can be anything related to researchers’ background but preferably linked with the topics of the summer school. The draft can be uploaded under ‘Additional Application Form’.

For this course you are required to upload the following documents when applying:

    • Motivation Letter
    • C.V.
    • Transcript of Grades
    • Reference Letter
    • Additional Application Form
